You state your belief that video games lack the sophistication necessary to qualify as an art form. You explain that you can name great works for every other major medium—works that reach the heights of creative achievement—but that you cannot name a single video game that reaches those heights.
“That’s pretty subjective, if you ask me,” Ron replies. “There are definitely games that I think are great. And even if there’s not a video game Citizen Kane or Paradise Lost, that doesn’t mean there never will be. Video games are pretty young, you know. Maybe video games haven’t been around long enough to be great.
“I mean, these days most people think films are art, but early films weren’t exactly inspiring. They’d just show people walking out of factories or trains arriving at train stations. Those things didn’t exactly plumb the depths of the human soul.”
